For the trekking and mountain hiking lovers there are some ascents with astonishing views and different levels of complexity. The easiest is the ascent to Cerro Toco near San Pedro in the direction of Paso Jama which offers a great panoramic view of the region.
For those looking for an ascent of higher level we recommend to climb the Lascar Volcano. Seeing the magma bubbling out of its crater is a somewhat impressive experience. The most complex destination for the mountain-hiking lovers is the climbing of the Licancabur volcano (5.920 mts) which requires two days to reach the summit. The summit is considered as a very sacred place by the native people from the area and the ascension to the peak offers an amazing view, more especially considering that there is nothing higher between the andean mountains range and the Pacific coasts than the Licancabur volcano.
For the ascension of the volcano, we recommend you to contact a certified guide who clearly specifies the itinerary and the equipment needed for the ascension. The weather conditions are very changing and the height implies taking into account another factor for the own safety of the hikers.
